We are Anna's parents and have been with her every step of the way.
With the support of friends and family we managed to keep relatively optimistic. But it was the care, hard work and love that we were shown by every member of the staff in the Wessex Neurological Centre, Southampton General Hospital that really kept us going. Without their interest and genuine affection for Anna it would all have been much more difficult.
Anna, who is now thirty, was a patient in the Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton General Hospital since August 2005 suffering from Encephalitis. This was her third episode since she was 18 and until last year we had no diagnosis. Following a lot of research we now know that she suffers form a condition called NMDA Receptor Encephalitis.- a rare auto immune condition.
The hard work of everyone in Intensive Care , the High Dependency Unit , Stanley Graveson Ward and Victoria House, the acute rehabilitation unit was unbelievable. The expertise and care she was given together with the help and support we were shown never wavered for a moment. We never knew what the outcome would be but we had to say thank you in some way. We decided to start Anna's Room to enable us to provide portable sensory equipment and eventually a sensory environment for the Centre and although Anna has now moved on for further rehabiitation at Glenside Manor, Salisbury, we will continue to raise funds for Anna's Room.
